Reporting

Biodiversity Maps provides an easy to use reporting tool enabling users to easily generate complex spatial reports. The reporting tool and its usage is outlined below.

The reporting section is accessed by clicking on the Reports tab in the Spatial Layers List [A] on the mapping page.

The main sections of the reporting tool are as follows:

  1. Report type selector [A]. Here you select the type of report you would like to generate i.e. 10KM, SAC etc.

The reports available depend on whether you are viewing the map in either terrestrial() or marine() projection.

  2. Map viewer [B]. Once you select your report type in the Report type selector [A], you then select the relevant feature you would like to report on in the map viewer [B]. i.e. we have selected the SAC report type and the Wicklow mountains SAC in the map viewer for our sample report.
  3. Selected area [C]. This section shows you information on the currently selected feature on the map and also allows you to change the selected area should you wish to.
  4. Spatial intersection type selector [D]. Here you can chose which spatial intersection to apply to your report.

Spatial intersection refers to the manner in which the system determines which records should be included in your report. If Intersect is selected then any records whose grid square/feature intersects your selected area in any way will be included in your report. If however Within is selected then only those record grid squares/features that are completely contained within your chosen area will be included in your report.

  5. Generate report button [E]. Once you are happy with your selections, click on Generate report to begin generation of your report. Once generated, the report will be added to the Completed reports area [F].
  6. Completed reports area [F]. Completed reports will be added to this section. Clicking on the reports will trigger a download. A loading icon will be shown next to your report while it is being generated. Reports can also be removed from this section once they are no longer required.

Spatial reporting is a complex and computationally intensive task. As such some of the larger reports i.e. SAC will take a little bit of time to complete. Most of the time the reports should be completed in under twenty seconds or so, so please be patient.

Example

Objective: Generate an SAC report for all records which intersect the Wicklow mountains SAC.

  1. Select the SAC report type in the Report type selector [A].
  2. Select the Wicklow mountains SAC from the Map viewer [B].
  3. Select Intersect from the Spatial intersection type selector [D].
  4. Click the Generate report button [E].
  5. Wait for a few moments and then click on your completed report in the Completed reports area [F].

Reports are unaffected by any applied date ranges, or pre-loaded datasets, surveys or species. The reports are always run on all records across all datasets.
